Ver Sacrum Gloria S Garnacha is a superbly fresh expression of this wonderful grape with red cherry aromas dominating the wine. Darker red fruits follow with an almost wild bramble feel to the wine. The wine has amazing length and amazingly pure fruit which is beautifully complimented with subtle spice notes.
The grapes are sourced from a massal selection from a vineyard planted in 1947 located at Los Chacayes in the Uco valley which sits at 1100 meters above sea level. The grapes go through a semi-carbonic maceration for four days with 50% being whole bunch. A combination of amphorae and third use French oak is used for aging which lasts 18 months before a further 20 months of bottle aging before release.
Ver Sacrum is a small-scale project headed by Eduardo Soler and his team of “Grenachistas”. They stand out like a sore thumb by focusing on Mediterranean varieties, lost in the 1950’s in favour of the now ubiquitous Malbec. Here you’ll find Grenache Noir, Mourvedre, Syrah, Mencia, Nebbiolo, Carignan, Teroldego, Roussanne, Marsanne and a little Malbec just for good measure. It is a true garage winery; the winery is Eduardo’s garage!
The aim has always been to make low intervention wines with basic winemaking techniques. True garage wines that express the grape and terroir. The wines are incredibly fruit driven, less alcoholic and fresh with wonderful acidity and low oak influence. They are gastronomic, almost naked, precise and wonderfully drinkable.
