Ver Sacrum Diez Mil Violetas Mil Colorados is a co-fermented blend of 50% Mencia, 20% Garnacha, 17% Carignan and 3% Viognier (I never thought in my wildest dreams I’d every write that sentence!). It is a quite magical blend that is lush, dense, incredibility fruity, yet fresh and harmonious. Red fruit dominates with cherry, raspberry and a gateau like feel along with wild notes of mint, black tea and Asian spice. It’s an amazingly rewarding wine with balance and elegance. I’m a big fan.

Ver Sacrum is a small-scale project headed by Eduardo Soler and his team of “Grenachistas”. They stand out like a sore thumb by focusing on Mediterranean varieties, lost in the 1950’s in favour of the now ubiquitous Malbec. Here you’ll find Grenache Noir, Mourvedre, Syrah, Mencia, Nebbiolo, Carignan, Teroldego, Roussanne, Marsanne and a little Malbec just for good measure. It is a true garage winery; the winery is Eduardo’s garage!

The aim has always been to make low intervention wines with basic winemaking techniques. True garage wines that express the grape and terroir. The wines are incredibly fruit driven, less alcoholic and fresh with wonderful acidity and low oak influence. They are gastronomic, almost naked, precise and wonderfully drinkable.
