Figuiere is an idyllic, charming, sun-drenched estate located in the village of La Londe Les Maures. With views to the south of the Med, this could only be described as Provencal heaven. The Domaine is a family affair which was purchased in 1992 by Alain Combard. Alain helped develop Domaine Laroche in Chablis with his friend Michel Laroche but decided he needed a new challenge and a bit more sunshine! Today, Alain’s children, Magali and Francois run the estate whilst their cousin, Sebastien is the chef at the Domaine’s restaurant. You couldn’t be further away from the corporate, celebrity owned brands that Provence has become synonymous with.
Figuiere Premier is a blend of Cinsault, Grenache and Mourvedre. The grapes are sourced from two regions with different soils. La Londe, which is on micaceous schist and enjoys cooler temperatures, and Barbeiranne, which is on hard clay-limestone. Only the first press juice from each grape variety is used for this wine which is fermented separately before being blended and aged in a combination of stainless steel and large 300 litre French oak barrels, 50% in each for 6-8 months.
