Sylvain Bzikot Cote d’Or Rouge is one of those wines that always bring a smile to my face when I drink it. Made from 100% Pinot Noir it is a thrilling and vibrant wine with dark strawberry fruit, red currant and cherry fruit flavours. The wine has added complexity from spiced oak notes which complement the fruit beautifully. Wonderful in its youth and when all is said and done, still good value because nothing else will scratch that Burgundy itch!
Domaine Sylvain Bzikot maybe one of the lesser-known names in Puligny Montrachet, but the quiet and reserved Sylvain lets his wines, rather than a PR machine do the talking. The Domaine was started by Sylvain’s grandfather, a Polish emigrant, who arrived in Puligny just before the 2nd World War with nothing but the clothes he stood up in. From those very humble beginnings this family Domaine has managed to acquire an impressive 4 hectares of some of the most valuable agricultural land in the world, namely Puligny-Montrachet and Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru. They own a further 9 hectares of “regional appellation” vineyards which produce Bourgogne Blanc, Aligoté and Bourgogne Pinot Noir.
