Sylvain Bzikot Auxey-Duresses Rouge is a charming, elegant Pinot Noir with vibrant red cherry and wild strawberry fruit character. It’s a medium bodied wine with a lovely balance of bright red fruit and delicious sappy almost savoury characteristics. There is a bit of nerve and tension to the wine which gives it a quite thrilling core. It’s maybe a style of wine which you don’t see all that often and is one for the lovers of lighter, mineral led Burgundian Pinot Noir.
Domaine Sylvain Bzikot maybe one of the lesser-known names in Puligny Montrachet, but the quiet and reserved Sylvain lets his wines, rather than a PR machine do the talking. The Domaine was started by Sylvain’s grandfather, a Polish emigrant, who arrived in Puligny just before the 2nd World War with nothing but the clothes he stood up in. From those very humble beginnings this family Domaine has managed to acquire an impressive 4 hectares of some of the most valuable agricultural land in the world, namely Puligny-Montrachet and Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru. They own a further 9 hectares of “regional appellation” vineyards which produce Bourgogne Blanc, Aligoté and Bourgogne Pinot Noir.
