Chateau Palmer 2020 is a blend of 48% Merlot, 48% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot. Wonderful aromas of cassis and red fruit – cherry & raspberry make for an attractive and perfumed nose which develop into truffle, dark chocolate and cigar box. It’s deep, concentrated, complex, beautiful, pure and incredibly enjoyable. A modern classic.
Although only classed as a third growth, Chateau Palmer is of undisputed second growth quality and if the rankings were ever to be re-done, which they won’t, many would make a strong case for it to be ranked as a first growth. The estate is owned by two Bordeaux negociant - Sichel and Mahler-Besse, which is slightly unusual but seems to work. The estates other peculiarity, for one situated on the left bank, is the high percentage of Merlot in the grand vin. This is a result of the soils, which the estate has felt favours Merlot over Cabernet Sauvignon. The result is a wonderfully seductive and forward wine with richness and complexity that ages well for decades.
