The 2020 Léoville Barton is a superb wine, exhibiting generous aromas of blackberries and crème de cassis, complemented by hints of liquorice, pencil shavings, and refined new oak. Medium to full-bodied, the wine shows great concentration of fruit at its core, with sweet tannins and a well-defined finish and shows similarities to the estate's expressive 2000 vintage. Too young to drink now, this will tighten up in bottle and should be ready to drink from 2027 through to 2055.
Leoville Barton is now one of only two Chateaux from the 1855 Classification of the Medoc that remains in the hands of the same family that owned it at the time it was classified. Anthony Barton's second-growth estate consistently produces exceptional Bordeaux wines of classic stature, known for their structure, purity, and controlled elegance. The 50ha vineyard is predominantly planted with 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, and 3% Cabernet Franc. Often regarded as the quintessential Saint-Julien, they embody the region's finest qualities. Under the stewardship of Anthony's daughter Lilian and her son Damien, the Barton family's traditions continue to thrive.
