Chateau Lafon Rochet 2018 is a beautifully silky wine with a lovely balance of freshness and ripe red fruit. Typical cassis dominated with lighter red fruit notes, dark strawberry, raspberry and small hedgerow berry notes. The wine is a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot & 4% Cabernet Franc. It’s a complex wine with added spiced notes on the palate of cinnamon, chocolate, tobacco and a fresh mint note. Lush finish, alluring and almost sensual!
Chateau Lafon Rochet is owned by the Lorenzetti family who also own Chateau d’Issan, Chateau Pedesclaux and Chateau Lilian Ladouy. Although the owners are relatively new, the Chateau itself is one of Bordeaux’s oldest, dating back to the 16th century. Its wines were recognised in the 1855 classification where they were awarded 4th growth status, but the quality has quietly risen, year on year since the 1960’s, under the then ownership of Guy Tesseron. During this period a new Chateau was constructed, the original was destroyed by fire, the vineyards overhauled with a larger focus on Merlot and two new cellars installed, one of which focuses on concrete tanks. The wines now represent great quality and value.
