Grand Puy Lacoste 2022 is a generous and flamboyant wine with sensual cassis, blueberry and plum fruit notes along with fresher rose and mint notes. The palate is packed with classic notes of lead pencil, graphite, tobacco, cedar, chocolate and black tea. There is a magically sweet and savoury thing going on here. It’s a brilliant wine which will age well for years.
Grand Puy Lacoste is one of the less glitzy names from the Pauillac region and long may that continue. For us mere mortals in the wine trade we need something that consistently displays the best of Pauillac at a fraction of the price of the very big names. The estate is classified as a 5th growth but consistently produces wines that outperform most 2nd growths. The style is very classic and typically of the region with richness, concentration, longevity and elegance. The only other fact you need to know, should it come up in the pub quiz, is that unlike most Bordeaux Chateau, the vineyards sit in one block surrounding the Chateau.
