Andreas Syrah is a full throttle, rich and bold wine with forest fruits, touches of spice and caramel along with notes of dry prune and a classy vanilla swipe. Surprisingly delicate on the palate with ripe sweet red fruits, sour cherries, raspberries, spice and pepper. The wine is aged between 12 and 18 months in French barrels before being aged in bottle for a further 24 months. There is a lot going on here.
Andreas estate sits in the beautiful Bovlei valley, just outside Wellington and a little over an hour from Cape Town. The estate comprises both luxury accommodation and a wine farm – a dream combination! The wine side of the business is headed up by Shaun Meyeridricks (ex Boekenhoutskloof AKA Chocolate Block) who is no stranger to producing top-quality award-winning wines. The small size and nature of the estate allows Shaun to have a hands-on approach to producing the best possible fruit and wine. Shaun might just have the dream job.
